Judson University Case Study - Fire Bead Installation

Judson University

Master of Architecture Art Space

A $2.5 million renovation of a former bank into a new art space for Judson University encountered significant challenges due to exposed concrete beams. These beams required firestopping and finishing, a process typically involving messy and time-consuming fire caulking.

To address these issues, the construction team implemented Fire Bead®, a fire-rated drywall accessory. Fire Bead streamlined the firestopping process by combining two steps into one, reducing labor time. Unlike fire caulking, Fire Bead offered a consistent application, ensuring code compliance and minimizing inspection issues. Its clean, aesthetically pleasing finish was another advantage over fire caulk.

Featured Product

Fire Bead is a fire-rated wall mount deflection bead that provides 1 hr and 2 hr fire ratings for both dynamic and static joints. Fire ratings apply to both standard walls and shaft walls and are in accordance with UL-2079 5th edition. Fire bead is also sound tested according to ASTM E90.
