The Lofts at the HUPP is a testament to the revitalization of historic buildings. Once the bustling hub of the Weber Implement and Automobile Company, this St. Louis landmark underwent a $21.5 million transformation into 70 luxury apartments. While preserving the building’s iconic exterior, the interior was completely reimagined.
A primary challenge during the renovation was ensuring fire safety in the newly constructed units. Traditional firestopping methods proved time-consuming and error-prone. To overcome these hurdles, the construction team implemented Fire Bead, an innovative firestopping solution. This product significantly streamlined the fireproofing process, reducing labor costs and minimizing the risk of human error due to its integrated intumescent material that stops smoke and fire penetration. Furthermore, Fire Bead’s versatility allowed it to adapt to the building’s unique architectural elements, such as irregularly shaped columns.
By incorporating Fire Bead into the construction process, the Lofts at the HUPP project successfully merged historic preservation with modern living standards, setting a new benchmark for urban redevelopment.
