To address a critical student housing shortage, UC San Diego embarked on a project to create a new living and learning community. This massive development encompassed multiple buildings, including residences, classrooms, and retail spaces.
Nevell Group, the contractor responsible for the drywall systems, faced the challenge of managing thousands of interior spaces within this complex project. The sheer scale demanded efficient and versatile solutions.
To meet these challenges, Nevell Group utilized HOTROD Type-X and Smoke + Sound Stop for firestopping and soundproofing needs. HOTROD Type-X, a compressible foam with pre-attached intumescent tape, simplified the firestopping process, especially in tight spaces. Smoke + Sound Stop offered a similar solution for soundproofing without fire resistance. These products significantly reduced labor costs and improved efficiency compared to traditional methods.
